  • Introduction
    Luvunga scandens branches are sallow or pale gray, with straight and long spines in the lower part of the stem and short, curved in the upper part. It grows in evergreen broad-leaved forests with moist river banks and valleys below 600 meters above sea level, and climbs on trees up to 20 meters high. The primary leaves and the lower part of the stem are single-leafed, petioles 2-9 cm long, berries spherical or inverted pear-shaped, 3-5 cm in diameter, peduncles 4-6 mm long, thick pericarp, yellow-skinned, smooth, seeds 1-4, broadly ovate, 2-3 cm long. The flowering period is from March to April, and the fruiting period is from October to December.
