Salvia splendens / Scarlet sage / 一串红

  • Introduction
    Salvia splendens can reach a height of 90 cm. The stems are obtuse and shallowly grooved, glabrous. Leaves ovate or triangular-ovate, 2.5-7 cm long, 2-4.5 cm wide, apex acuminate, base truncated or rounded, columella nearly equal to corolla, apex unequal 2-lobed, anterior lobes longer. Flower disc and so on. The nuts are oval, about 3.5 mm long, dark brown, with a few irregular protrusions at the apex, margins or narrow wings, smooth. The flowering period is 3~10 months. Sun-loving, warm-loving, good light and semi-shade-tolerant, preferring loose and fertile soils, requiring loose, fertile and well-drained sandy loam.
