Platycodon grandiflorus / Chinese bellflower / 桔梗花

  • Introduction
    Platycodon grandiflorus stems are 20-120 cm high, usually glabrous, occasionally densely covered with short hairs, unbranched, rarely with upper branches. Leaves all whorl, partially whorls to all alternate, sessile or with very short stalks, leaves ovate, ovate-elliptic to lanceolate, 2-7 cm long, 0.5-3.5 cm wide, corolla large, 1.5-4.0 cm long, blue or purple. Capsule globular, or globular inverted conical, or obovate, 1-2.5 cm long, about 1 cm in diameter. Flowering period is from July to September.
