Fragaria xananassa
     Garden strawberry / 栽培草莓

Taxonomy: Angiosperms / Eudicots / Rosids / Rosales / Rosaceae

Introduction

1. The strawberry is not, from a botanical point of view, a berry.
2. In addition to being consumed fresh, strawberries can be frozen, made into preserves,as well as dried and used in prepared foods, such as cereal bars.
3. Strawberry consumption may be associated with a decreased cardiovascular disease risk and that phytochemicals present in strawberries have anti-inflammatory or anticancer properties in laboratory studies.
4. The fruit is widely appreciated for its characteristic aroma, bright red color, juicy texture, and sweetness.
5. Strawberries contains approximately 33 kilocalories, is an excellent source of vitamin C, a good source of manganese, and provides several other vitamins and dietary minerals in lesser amounts.
