Amborella trichopoda

Description

Amborella trichopoda is a rare, evergreen shrub in the Amborellaceae family, native to New Caledonia. Considered a living fossil, it’s one of the most primitive flowering plants, with small, creamy-white flowers blooming in clusters. Growing 6-12 feet tall, it thrives in shaded, humid forests with well-drained soil. Amborella is of great scientific interest for studying plant evolution, as it lacks vessel elements in its xylem, a trait unique among angiosperms. It’s rarely cultivated but valued for its historical significance and delicate appearance in botanical collections.
